We list the most exciting, interesting and fun movies of 2013 that everybody should see. Here is the Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2013.
10. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Director: Don Scardino
Actors: Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi & Alan Arkin
Release Date: 15 March, 2013 (USA & UK)
Quality comedy films are few and far between but luckily, there are a couple of really promising ones coming out in 2013, “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” being one of them. With an all-star cast this movie has high chance of being very good and most importantly, very funny. Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) is a magician who´s career is dying and when a new and more exciting street performer, Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), takes his spotlight he tries to do whatever it takes to show that he still has what it takes to be more impressive than him. Steve Buscemi, Alan Arkin and Olivia Wilde are also a part of the fantastic cast. The stage is set for Steve Carell and Jim Carrey to show us, and prove to the world once more, that they are still as funny as ever before. It is a step in the right direction for Jim Carrey who starred in movies like “Mr. Popper´s Penguins” and “A Christmas Carol”, movies that were mediocre at best. While many great movies are set to be released in 2013, it is safe to say that “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” is a must-watch for any 80´s/90´s comedy fan.
9. Star Trek Into Darkness
Director: J.J. Abrams
Stars: Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana & Zachary Quinto
Release Date: 17 May, 2013 (USA & UK)
After the success of “Star Trek” (2009), it is not surprising to see that another Star Trek movie is on its way. “Star Trek Into Darkness” seems to be much darker and more sinister than the first installment. After a seemingly unstoppable force attacked Starfleet and left the planet in chaos, the crew of the U.S.S Enterprise find themselves on a hunt to find the person responsible. Chris Pine will return as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto will reprise his role as Spock and Zoe Saldana is once again Nyota Uhura. While the main cast is already brilliant, they have added the up-and-coming Benedict Cumberbatch to the cast as well. If acting in “The Hobbit” trilogy is already not enough, he is rumored to play Khan in “Star Trek Into Darkness”, whether it is true or not is still unknown. One thing is for sure though and that is that Benedict Cumberbatch is a perfect add to the already great cast. He has the looks, acting skills and would be able to pull off Khan better than most people could. Even all that aside, the trailer is stunning, intriguing and downright awesome. Not only does it look like it will surpass “Star Trek” (2009) but it also seems that it will be able to live up to the hype surrounding it. Any and every Sci-fi fan will watch this purely because it is Star Trek but it looks like a movie that will go above and beyond what we could ever expect from it.
8. Pacific Rim
Director: Guillermo del Toro
Stars: Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi & Ron Perlman
Release Date: 12 July, 2013 (USA & UK)
Gigantic monsters, huge robots and the end of the world, that´s what you will
get from “Pacific Rim” directed by Guillermo del Toro. After unknown creatures surface from the Pacific Ocean, earth is turned upside down and the Apocalypse seems to be at hand. Giant robots which are piloted by humans, are used to fight off the creatures destroying earth. Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman and Idris Elba are just some of the very talented actors that you will see in the movie. The story is very interesting yet dark, deep and looks to be rather realistic. Having huge monsters destroying earth is already a good idea but to have robots piloted by humans defending earth? Well that is just brilliant. The trailer shows off the visuals perfectly, the creatures look great and the robots look even better. Whether you´re a fan of monster movies or a Sci-fi fan in general this movie is a must watch but “Pacific Rim” will undoubtedly cater to all kinds of people.
7. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
Director: Adam McKay
Stars: Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell & David Koechner
Release Date: 20 December, 2013 (USA)
“Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” (2004) is one of the funniest comedies to ever be created, with an excellent cast and wonderful sense of humor, the upcoming sequel titled “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” promises to be even better. During the past 5 years or so, funny comedies are hard to find purely because the sense of humor these days is ridiculously poor. “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” looks to bring us back to the golden days of comedy when the “comedy” genre did not just mean a few laughs and a giggle but meant that you will be laughing your ass off throughout the movie. Whether or not you enjoy dirty humor, silly humor or intelligent humor, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” seems to have it all. The legend of Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) will continue and he is yet again bringing his best buds with him, Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and Champ Kind (David Koechner) are there to give him cologne advise as well as many inappropriate jokes about women. Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) is there for moral support… and for his love of lamps of course. Christina Applegate is set to return as Veronica Corningstone together with Luke Wilson who is rumored to play Frank Vitchard. It is impossible to ask for a better cast as they have already proven to have great chemistry with one-another, not only that but all of the actors in this upcoming movie are known for being hilarious and naturally funny.
6. Ender´s Game
Director: Gavin Hood
Stars: Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Abigail Breslin, Ben Kingsley & Viola Davis
Release Date: 25 October, 2013 (UK) / 1 November, 2013 (USA)
Trailer: Not Yet Released
The title of the movie itself should send shivers down your spine, if you would know that the movie is based on Orson Scott Card´s “Ender´s Game”. A science fiction novel with a story that is intriguing yet very deep and dark. 70 years after a catastrophic alien war, a very gifted child by the name of Ender Wiggin is sent to a military school in space to prepare for future invasions. Not only is Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield) incredibly gifted, he is also dubbed as “the military´s next great hope” by Colonel Hyrum Graff (Harrison Ford). That´s the long story short, it is much deeper and more dramatic than it sounds and the novel it is based on, is brilliantly written and simply phenomenal. While most sci-fi movies tend to be rather good, “Ender´s Game” will undoubtedly blow us all away, if it is created to perfection that is. It is never simple to create a movie based on a novel, as the expectations are high even before the trailer gets released. “Ender´s Game” is a movie that we can expect greatness from. While very little is still known about the movie, one thing is certain and that is that the novel it is based on, is simply brilliant.
5. The Wolf of Wall Street
Director: Martin Scorsese
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill & Jean Dujardin
Release Date: Unknown, 2013
Trailer: None Yet Released
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have become one of the most well-known director/actor duo´s in the movie business today. Martin Scorsese has directed “The Aviator, “The Departed” and “Shutter Island”, all movies in which Leonardo DiCaprio had the lead role in. “The Wolf of Wall Street” is a movie which is directed by Martin Scorsese and guess who has the lead role? Leonardo DiCaprio of course. That is not a bad thing though as whenever these two work together on a movie, it becomes incredibly good, like the three movies named above. “The Wolf of Wall Street” will tell a story about a New York stockbroker by the name of Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) who refuses to cooperate in a large securities fraud case involving corruption on Wall Street, the corporate banking world and mob infiltration. The story sounds intriguing, exciting and seems to be perfect for Leonardo DiCaprio. Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill and the talented Jean Dujardin will also be acting alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. The main reason this movie made the list is because of the director and the lead actor in it. Scorsese and DiCaprio have proven it time and time again that when they work on a movie together, it will most likely be a hit and very successful.
4. Iron Man 3
Director: Shane Black
Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley & Don Cheadle
Release Date: 26 April, 2013 (UK) / 3 May, 2013 (USA)
“Iron Man 3″ is the third Iron Man movie with a phenomenal cast, great story and a new director by the name of Shane Black. “Iron Man 3″ has a lot to live up to purely because it is the third movie in the Iron Man series and if watching movies has thought us anything, it is that most movie series stumble quite a bit on the third movie. “Iron Man 3″ follows the story of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) who has been having nightmares since what happened in New York (The Avengers) and finds himself trapped in his own skin when he has to answer one very important question; Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man? Not only does Tony Stark have personal issues that have taken over his life, but he will also come face-to-face with a foe that has no limits, The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). Not only will Iron Man have to protect the people he loves the most from The Mandarin, but The Iron Patriot is also seen in the trailer which could mean that Iron Man has more than just one foe to worry about. “Iron Man 3″ looks very different from previous Iron Man movies. The corny jokes we all love so much can´t even be seen in the trailer, which is great as it looks like they are focusing on making a serious Superhero movie, rather than an action/comedy with a splash of seriousness. “Iron Man 3″ looks like a phenomenally well created action movie with an excellent cast and superb directing.
3. The Wolverine
Director: James Mangold
Stars: Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Tao Okamoto & Famke Janssen (rumored)
Release Date: 26 July, 2013 (USA & UK)
Trailer: Not Yet Released
James Mangold will direct “The Wolverine”, which is based on Chris Claremont and Frank Miller´s 1982 Limited Edition Wolverine comic book. While very little is still known about the movie, “The Wolverine” seems to be about Logan traveling to Japan so he can train with a samurai warrior. Hugh Jackman will of course be playing Logan/Wolverine and Famke Janssen is rumored to appear as Jean Grey. Will Yun Lee and the newcomer Tao Okamoto will also appear in the movie as major characters. Wolverine is one of the most treasured and beloved characters of Marvel, he is charismatic, vicious and one hell-of-a fighter. It looks as if Wolverine will get the treatment he deserves with his very own movie. While “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” tried to start a new movie series, it failed as it hardly passed for a decent action movie, even with all the flashy action, it was entertaining but missed the mark. In all honesty, Hugh Jackman is the perfect actor to play Logan/Wolverine but hopefully this upcoming Wolverine movie, will actually focus on him, his way of thinking, and I hope to see some character development as well. Think of the possibilities, if they would actually create a trilogy out of this as Wolverine has his share of enemies that would be great to see come to life on film. There have also been rumors surrounding “The Wolverine”, that it might be a bridge for Logan/Wolverine to appear in The Avengers sequel. While it is still a rumor, if that would happen, The Avengers sequel would only benefit from Hugh Jackman´s presence in the film. “The Wolverine” is a new start for Logan and hopefully it will be far more serious than usual comic book movies that focus heavily on action and entertainment.
2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Director: Peter Jackson
Stars: Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Hugo Weaving & Andy Serkis
Release Date: 13 December, 2013 (USA & UK)
Trailer: Not Yet Released
The upcoming sequel to “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” might just be the most anticipated movie of 2013, purely because so many people around the world are anxious to see the continuation. “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is without a doubt in mind, going to be well produced, well-directed and above anything else, well acted. While the first movie was quite well received, it did not impress people as much as many would have hoped. In “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” things will surely become more serious and exciting as the first installment was very light-hearted, something that might´ve thrown people off a bit. Peter Jackson is of course directing and the spectacular cast will return with a few additions. There is no shortage of talent when it comes to the actors, the director is top-notch and the novel it is based on is excellent, so what more could someone ask for in a sequel to the first The Hobbit installment? While many have their own ideas on how The Hobbit movies should be like, I feel that the sequel should be more serious, deeper and better character development is a must. Many took “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” way too seriously as they were expecting to see a movie that was on the same level of Lord of the Rings, but at the same time very few movies can even be compared to the excellent LOTR trilogy. The Hobbit still has two more movies on the way and the anticipation level after the first movie is sky-high. “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” will hopefully pick things up a bit and focus on the story more than anything, with a solid first movie, it has the opportunity in the world to blow us all away with the sequel.
1. Man of Steel
Director: Zack Snyder
Stars: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner & Michael Shannon
Release Date: 14 June, 2013 (USA & UK)
There are rarely movies that are as anticipated as the Zack Snyder directed “Man of Steel”. Not only will we finally be getting a good Superman movie but it looks like it could blow us all away. Original music by the legendary Hans Zimmer who has composed music for movies like “The Lion King”, “Gladiator”, “The Dark Knight” and the list goes on. Many may have noticed several similarities between “Man of Steel” and “The Dark Knight/Rises”, which is not surprising considering the fact that Christopher Nolan himself is a producer for “Man of Steel”.
Clark Kent gets adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent after he is transported to Earth from the planet of Krypton. He is raised by the values of his two adoptive parents but still feels alienated by humans as he struggles to fit in as a normal child. When Earth is attacked, he becomes the hero named Superman to protect the Earth and its people.
After watching the two trailers, both of which are brilliantly put together, it can be seen that they are not giving away everything and still leave a lot of questions unanswered, which only raises the anticipation level. The trailer will make your entire body shiver as you see how passionately and creatively this Superman movie is put together. With the trailer alone it is able to pull you in and make you understand how Clark Kent is feeling, what he must go through and how difficult his entire life has been. The cast for the movie is above and beyond good, the trailer proves that the mixture of actors and actresses many may have thought would not fit together, look perfectly in harmony with one another. While it is too early to start talking about Oscar´s but due to the trailer, I have a feeling that we might have a Best Picture nomination on our hands in a Superhero action movie which focuses on the right things. Most superhero movies always focus on action while the story is put on the back-burner but “Man of Steel” looks like it will focus heavily on character development, relationships and realism. While many phenomenal movies are going to be released in 2013, “Man of Steel” is looking like an incredibly well put together movie that is directed to perfection, but that is just me speculating. “Man of Steel” will surely make us cheer in joy when Clark Kent does something heroic
and it might also make us become emotional when we see him suffering, whatever way you look at it, it seems to be a spectacular movie.
